Pioneer Trail

Las Vegans can now get a taste of their roots with a new trail on the west side of the valley. The Pioneer Trail was recently completed, providing 16 stops that lead visitors through the development of early Las Vegas. Those visiting the trail will get a sense of the growth and cultural heritage of the city as they wander from stop to stop.
The trail covers a 6-mile stretch beginning at the Las Vegas Springs Preserve on Valley View Boulevard and continuing to the Biltmore Village, a World War II neighborhood dating back to 1942. The 16 stops along the route are designated with historic markers, providing insight into the significance of the location.
Highlights of the trail include the Moulin Rouge, the first racially integrated hotel and casino in Las Vegas; the Westside School, the oldest remaining schoolhouse in the city, which now serves as a local radio station; and the Las Vegas Mormon Fort, a remnant of the complex of adobe structures built by Mormon colonists in the 1850’s.
The trail is a joint venture between the city of Las Vegas and Clark County and was funded with $365,250 from the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act . The funding provided for the design and production of the banners and historic markers, as well as the research for the text on each marker.
