Helldorado Returns To Las Vegas

Downtown Las Vegas will look more like the wild, wild West than a gambling mecca as Helldorado Days returns this spring. After a seven-year absence, the event returned last year as part of the city’s Centennial Celebration.

The tradition, which was once one of the most revered events in the community, began in 1935. Throughout the years, the successful event included a number of western-themed activities including Kangaroo Court, Old Timers Parade, Whiskerino Contest and a rodeo. Many of these activities were revived last year and will continue for this year’s festivities.

Activities will begin on April 24, and continue throughout the month of May. One of the most beloved Helldorado events is the Helldorado Parade, which will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, along Fourth Street. Last year’s Helldorado Parade was a huge success with more than 80,000 people lining the streets of downtown Las Vegas to view entries ranging from marching bands and floats to walking groups and dance troupes.

Applications for parade entries are now being accepted through Friday, March 24. Those interested in entering a float or other entry, can download an application form  or call Esther Carter at (702) 229-6776 for more information.
