Fire Department Receives International Recognition

The Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Department was recently honored by receiving accredited agency status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). The successful completion of this process exemplifies the department’s commitment to one of the city’s strategic priorities, which is to provide a safe environment for our residents, business and visitors using a community-oriented approach. This approach looks at stopping fires before they happen.
The CFAI evaluation looks at a broad range of criteria, such as fire prevention, public education and emergency management, through a self-assessment process. The self-assessment process is followed up with an on-site evaluation by a Peer Assessment Team. The process, which took nearly two years to complete, is reviewed and up for renewal every five years.
The department also has the distinction of being one of 44 agencies to have a Class One rating by the Insurance Services Offices (ISO). The ISO looks at many factors to determine how well a department can suppress fires. ISO ratings help determine insurance rates customers pay in communities around the country.
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue is the eighth department in the country to hold both distinctions.
