Summer Landscaping

Warmer weather is just around the corner and so are summer watering restrictions. Beginning in May and continuing through September 30, summer watering restrictions are in effect. They allow for watering on any day of the week, but prohibit the use of irrigation between the hours of 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The dry desert heat makes landscaping difficult during the upcoming summer months, but there are some things you can do to ensure your landscaping looks its best even during the summer heat.

  •  Water your landscape after sunset and before sunrise to reduce evaporation caused by wind and heat.
  • Use the cycle and soak sprinkler irrigation method, which allows the soil to absorb water slowly and reduces the risk of runoff.
  • Run drip irrigation in one long cycle.
  • Don’t water on windy or rainy days.
  • If you notice brown spots in your lawn, check your sprinklers to see if any of the heads are broken or twisted.
  • Hand water stressed plants. Watering by hand is permitted on any day.
  • Aerate turf and areas around shrubs.
