Web Site Provides Healthy Alternatives

A new Web site. http://www.gethealthyclarkcounty.org/ , provides helpful information, tips and programs for all southern Nevadans. The site, developed by the Southern Nevada Health District , aims to help residents of southern Nevada get and stay healthy.
The site features information in a number of interesting topics including tobacco control, chronic disease, injury prevention and Latino health. Each topic provides a large range of information including articles, videos and related links for further research. In addition, the Web site promotes several programs that residents can participate in that will help them get healthy.
“Walk Around Nevada” is an innovative program that allows walkers to virtually trek around the state of Nevada. The program can be joined by individuals or groups, making it a perfect opportunity for co-workers or friends to make a healthy activity even more fun. After registering online, you are able to enter the miles you’ve walked, which will be reflected on a map of the state of Nevada. The site even includes a conversion chart to help convert other activities, such as gardening or swimming, into miles.
Another helpful program on the site is the “Nutrition Challenge.” This program is not a diet, but a way for participants to get healthy by tracking the number of servings of fruits and vegetables they eat. Participants will get helpful tips, including healthy recipes that incorporate fruits and vegetables, and have an opportunity to win prizes through a weekly drawing.
Other programs include those geared towards ending obesity and creating smoke-free workplaces.
