War Dog Memorial Dedicated

Councilman Larry Brown recently unveiled a new memorial plaque at Barkin’ Basin Dog Park. The plaque, which was donated by the Summerlin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, pays tribute to the hundreds of trainers and thousands of dogs who have given their lives throughout the world to ensure freedom and safety.

The international War Dogs / Working Dogs Foundation is encouraging cities and military bases throughout the country to erect similar monuments. During the Vietnam War, some 400 trainers were lost leading dogs into combat. Dogs are used in every branch of the U.S. military and in law enforcement agencies throughout the country.

The Barkin’ Basin Dog Park is located at Tenaya Way and W. Alexander Road and features three dog areas, drinking fountains and six shade structures.
