City Government Now More Accessible Thanks To New Online Service

City government has become more accessible to the public with the addition of a new online service. Archived video of the Las Vegas City Council meetings is now available through the city’s Web site at http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/. The city of Las Vegas is the first government agency in the state of Nevada to make use of this technology.
The video is available on demand and allows users to view video of individual items from the council meetings as well as read the backup documentation and the actual agenda item. The video, which will be available within 24 hours of the City Council meeting, will be posted on the Meetings and Agendas page of the city’s Web site, which can be found by navigating from “find” on the left hand menu.
The new program will include future phases as well. Video, if televised on the city’s cable television station KCLV Channel 2, and audio of other city meetings supported by the City Clerk’s office will be available in the next few months. The addition of the Planning Commission is anticipated as a future project. In August, users will also be able to find meeting agendas and minutes dating back to October 2004. A new robust search function will also be added allowing users to search agendas and meeting minutes by keywords, phrases, meeting types and date.
Live video of the City Council meetings will continue to be available through the city’s cable television station, KCLV Channel 2, and through a video stream of KCLV on the Web site. KCLV has provided much of its other programming through an on demand feature on the city’s Web site for several years.
