Downtown Las Vegas To See Addition Of Sound Walls Along Interstate 515

The downtown freeway system will now have a new look with the addition of sound walls being constructed on both sides of Interstate-515, also known as the U.S. Highway 95 east leg, between Charleston Boulevard and Las Vegas Boulevard. This coming week, local officials including Mayor Oscar B. Goodman and Councilmen Gary Reese and Lawrence Weekly will attend an event to officially unveil the chosen design for the sound walls.

The sound wall project, which cost an estimated $22 million, is a joint effort between the city of Las Vegas and the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT)  Several years ago, the state board of transportation approved funding for half of the project, with the other half being paid for by the city. Posts for the sound walls can now be seen along I-515 in the downtown Las Vegas area.

The two agencies have worked closely with citizens who live along the I-515 corridor to keep them up to date on the progress of the project as well as the larger I-515 corridor study. The corridor study is looking at current and future areas of congestion along I-515 and evaluating a variety of traffic alternatives in order to address mobility, accessibility, safety and multi-modal opportunities.

For more information on the I-515 Corridor Study, visit the NDOT I-515 project office, located at 420 N. 8th Street, located underneath Interstate 515.
