Work has begun to extend and expand a downtown thoroughfare. The Discovery Drive project includes construction of the new roadway from Martin L. King Boulevard, extending east under Interstate 15 to connect to the new Discovery Drive near Grand Central Parkway. Discovery Drive will be built to accommodate two lanes of travel in each direction. Curbs, gutters, sidewalks and streetlights will also be installed. When complete in approximately eight months, Discovery Drive will become another route for east-west travel and serve as a link to development proposed for the city’s 61-acre Union Park project.

Visitors to the Regional Justice Center  in downtown Las Vegas will notice two new sets of traffic lights. Visitors to the building, which houses many of the area’s courts including the Las Vegas Municipal Court, created an increase in both pedestrian and vehicle traffic when it opened in last year. The two new sets of lights, located at Lewis Avenue and Third Street, and Lewis and Casino Center Boulevard, will enhance safety in this area for both motorists and pedestrians.

In addition, work continues on the sound walls that are being constructed on both sides of Interstate 515, also known as the U.S. Highway 95 east leg, between Charleston Boulevard and Las Vegas Boulevard. The sound wall project, which cost an estimated $22 million, is a joint effort between the city of Las Vegas and the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) .
