The Department of Building and Safety is responsible for

Building and Safety

The Office of Business Development (OBD) coordinates new development and redevelopment throughout the city of Las Vegas, with an emphasis on the downtown area. It works to increase and diversify the city's economic base through business attraction, retention and expansion programs. The OBD works with the city's Redevelopment Agency on day-to-day operations as well as long-term strategic goals.

Business Development

The City Attorney's Office: 
<UL>
<LI>Supervises the drafting of all ordinances and the preparation of legal documents </LI>
<LI>Works directly with and provides legal advice to the mayor, <A href="/Government/city_council.htm">City Council</A>, <A href="/Government/city_manager.htm">city manager</A> and staff, as well as <A href="/Government/boards.asp">boards and commissions</A> </LI>
<LI>Reviews and consults on city services contracts and provides legal opinions and counseling </LI>
<LI>Supervises and manages all matters over special counsel, which may be hired with <A href="/Government/city_council.htm">City Council</A> consent for their specific knowledge and expertise </LI>
<LI>Includes the <A href="/information/9923.htm">Criminal Division</A>, which handles the day-to-day prosecution of municipal ordinance violations and state law misdemeanor violations, including DUIs, drug offenses, <A href="/information/659.htm">domestic violence</A> and traffic offenses that occur within the city limits. </LI></UL>

Leisure Services

The Municipal Court is a trial court with limited jurisdiction over criminal misdemeanor offenses, traffic violations, municipal code ordinance infractions and civil ordinance actions (not exceeding $2,500) that occur within Las Vegas city limits. <A href="/Government/municipal_judges.htm">Elected judges</A> represent the six departments.

Neighborhood Services

The Planning and Development Department prepares and implements plans to administer and recommend entitlements, and offer advice about development that will enhance the quality of life of the citizens of Las Vegas. Planning and Development

The Public Works Department:
