Las Vegas City Council will met on Wednesday, June 19. Below are some agenda items that may be of interest. Watch the recap.

RDA Items 5&6 – 2211 South Las Vegas Boulevard: If approved, Proview Series, LLC will undertake improvements to the property located at 2211 South Las Vegas Boulevard. This project is currently an old closed down, dilapidated 122 unit motel with no tenants. The project has been rezoned for mixed use to allow for the conversion to an apartment complex with remodeled rental units. This Multifamily Residential Unit Incentive Program Agreement will assist with the cost of improvements. Approval will adopt findings that the Multifamily Residential Unit Incentive Program is in compliance with and furtherance of the goals and objectives of the RDA and the Redevelopment Plan. APPROVED.

Agenda Items 5&6 – Recognition of Service:  This will be the last City Council meeting for Mayor Pro Tem Lois Tarkanian and Councilman Bob Coffin.

Agenda Item 61 – Increase Number of Slot Machines at Certain Grandfathered Tavern Locations: City Council will hear a proposed ordinance to increase the number of slot machines that can be operated at certain grandfathered tavern locations. Before this particular code section can be amended, the code requires council to hold a public hearing, notice of which has been provided to the holders of non-restricted gaming licenses within the city. APPROVED.

Agenda Item 63 – 2019 Election Results: The city’s Municipal General Election and the Ward 2 Special Election were held concurrently on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. As provided by the Clark County Registrar of Voters, the results were canvassed comparing the computer printout of ballots counted and the results thereof with the official ballot statements used in this election. To make the results official, City Council needs to vote to certify and accept the official election results as presented. APPROVED. The winners will be sworn in on July 3.

Agenda Item 64 – Pay for Parking Tickets with High School Supplies: On July 18, 2016, the City Council adopted Bill No. 2016-34, authorizing the establishment and operation of an occasional program by which fines for qualifying parking infractions may be paid by means of the donation of food items, children’s toys or school supplies. City Council will vote on a temporary program allowing a recipient of a qualifying parking infraction issued between June 19 and July 19 to donate a new, unwrapped school supplies of equal or greater value than the ticket fine. The recipient of the donations will be The Teachers Exchange, a local 501(c)3 organization which provides resources to Southern Nevada public school teachers. APPROVED.

Agenda Item 67 – Firework Violations: If approved, this bill will authorize the city to treat certain fireworks-related violations as civil violations subject to a civil penalty rather than proceeding by means of a misdemeanor prosecution. The amendment is intended to provide for a more effective means of enforcement and is consistent with enforcement plans being processed by other area jurisdictions. APPROVED.

Agenda Item 69 – Make State Misdemeanors, City Misdemeanors: Any offense that constitutes a misdemeanor under state law is also a misdemeanor under city law if it is committed within the corporate boundaries of the city. If approved, this will permit prosecution of such an offense in Municipal Court.

Agenda Item 70 – Repurposing of Certain Golf Courses and Open Spaces: Last year City Council adopted a number of procedures and standards relative to the repurposing of certain golf courses and open spaces. If approved, this bill would repeal that section, in effect returning to the processes and standards that would have applied had that section not been adopted. ABEYED.
