House Fire Under Investigation
One Person Taken To The Hospital For Smoke Inhalation

One person was taken to the hospital and five people are displaced after their Las Vegas home caught fire Thursday evening.  Damage is extensive to the second floor of the house.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire dispatchers received multiple 9-1-1 calls at 9:21 p.m. that a house at 132 Hutley Road (Buffalo/Westcliff) was on fire.  When firefighters arrived on scene the entire second floor of the two-story, wood-frame house was fully involved with fire.  Firefighters were also told by the occupants that someone was still inside the house on the second floor.

Firefighters entered the house and found the second floor heavily involved with fire.  The fire was so intense that the battalion chief had concerns that the roof might collapse, so firefighters were ordered out of the house.  Firefighters fought the fire from the outside and quickly brought it under control enough for firefighters to once again attack it from the inside.  Once inside the house they were able to quickly bring it under control and conduct a search for the missing person.

After the fire was knocked down, three searches were conducted and no one was found inside the house.  It was later learned the missing person left the house without anyone seeing them

A neighbor told fire investigators that he saw the house on fire and ran across the street.  He found the owner inside the house trying to go up the stairs to the second floor with a garden hose.  The neighbor, a retired wildland firefighter,  told the owner that the fire was much too far along and they should leave immediately.  The owner was later taken to the hospital to be checked for minor smoke inhalation.

Fire investigators believe the fire started in a bathroom on the second floor.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire completely gutted the entire second floor, damaged the roof, the rest of the house had a minor smoke odor.  Damage was estimated at $125,000.

The American Red Cross is assisting the five displaced occupants of the house.  One pet dog was able to escape without injury.
