The garage of a northwest Centennial Hills home was gutted by fire early Saturday evening. No one was home at the time of the fire. There were no reported injuries during the incident.
Fire dispatchers received multiple calls at 6:13 p.m. Saturday that a garage was on fire in a house at 7512 White Deer Court (Buffalo/Wittig). The house is just one block across from Fire Station 41 and as firefighters were leaving the station, they could see heavy black smoke coming from the house.
When firefighters arrived, heavy fire and smoke was coming out the garage of the one story wood frame/stucco house. There was a large amount of ammunition in the garage and it was exploding during fire. Firefighters fought the fire from the outside at a safe distance until they felt the ammunition was no longer a danger.
Firefighters had the fire under control within 15 minutes. They were able to confine the major portion of the fire to the garage. A laundry room and master bedroom had slight damage. The rest of the house had a minor smoke odor. The garage was gutted and the attic area above the garage was also damaged. Damage was estimated at $50,000.
The exact cause of the fire is undetermined. Fire investigators believe they found the area where the fire started. Several electrical plug in type objects were in the area.
The American Red Cross is assisting two adults and two children that live in the house with temporary housing.
