The City Attorney's Office protects and serves the city of Las Vegas as its legal counsel. The City Attorney's Office does not provide legal advice or represent individuals in private legal matters.
The City Attorney's Office is comprised of two divisions; the Civil Division and Criminal Division.
Civil Division
The Civil Division provides legal assistance and guidance to the city of Las Vegas' elected officials, city departments and its employees in relation to their official duties. The Division drafts and advises on ordinances, legal opinions, contracts, zoning, land use and public records. It also represents the city in civil litigation proceedings, supervises special counsel, and works directly with the city’s department of Human Resources on labor and employment matters.
Criminal Division
The Criminal Division represents the constituents of Las Vegas and its visitors by prosecuting all adult misdemeanor violations of the Las Vegas Municipal Code - ranging from traffic offenses, DUIs, drug offenses and domestic violence cases that occur within the city. If you are a victim of a misdemeanor crime, assistance can be provided through the
Victim Witness Program.
