Between the 1960s and 1970s, Clinton Wright documented Black life in the Historic Westside through his photojournalistic work with the Las Vegas Voice newspaper, founded in 1963. Join us for an insightful conversation with Claytee White and Clinton Wright recognizing his enduring legacy, learn about his work and celebrate his 90th birthday with cake and refreshments in the second-floor Then Cafe.
Also, filmmaker Emmett Gates will premiere a short preview of his next documentary about the life and work of Clinton Wright.
This program is in conjunction with the "Rhythm and Resilience: Black Vegas" exhibition, currently on display in the Civic Center Gallery until Aug. 20. Many of Wright’s photographs can be viewed in the exhibition.
This free event is open to the public. A complimentary two-hour parking validation is available to attendees who park in the 500 S. Main St. garage.
We are grateful to the Greater Clark County Area (NV) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and the Las Vegas Chapter of Jack and Jill of America for their collaboration on this program. Photo courtesy of UNLV Special Collections.
