In August 2025 the City Council passed an e-bike and e-scooter safety ordinance that went into effect Oct. 1, 2025.

This ordinance, aligned with recent county regulations, includes the following:

  • Defines electric vehicles.
  • Sets a speed limit of 15 mph at city-operated facilities.
  • Requires helmets for minors and prohibits wheelies, stunts and reckless behavior.
  • Bans bikes and e-scooters on sidewalks along Fremont Street between Main and Seventh streets in downtown Las Vegas.
  • Requires lamps, reflectors and bells capable of signaling audibly from at least 100 feet.

This ordinance addresses growing concerns about the safety of e-bike and e-scooter riders and pedestrians, following recent injuries and fatalities. It carries a $150 fine for the first violation.
