There's a lot to look forward to in 2022 for the City of Las Vegas when it comes to projects. There are so many exciting new ventures that tourists and locals should keep on their radar, from unique hotels and restaurants to underground passenger tunnels.
Below is a list and breakdown of some of what's to come.
Downtown Civic Center Building and Plaza
The Downtown Civic Center Building and Plaza construction is set to begin this year. The groundbreaking will take place across from Clark Avenue and Las Vegas City Hall. There are three phases to the new development.
Phase 1 will prepare the site, including demolition, vacating the alleyway, and rerouting underground and above-ground utilities. Phase 2 will include one building along Main Street, which will house the city of Las Vegas offices and the construction of the Civic Plaza.
Phase 3 will be a possible second building along Bonneville Avenue. Phase 3 may be accelerated as part of Phase 2, depending on funding availability.
New hotel and restaurant/bar will open in Symphony Park:
A Marriott hotel is getting built at Symphony Park. It will be located at the corner of Grand Central Parkway and Symphony Park Avenue, near The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. The Marriott will have different meeting spaces, a fitness center and a restaurant.
Vic's Symphony Park is currently under development. The full-service restaurant and tavern will feature live music in a cozy atmosphere and showcase a 20-foot replica of the world-famous Vegas Vic neon.
The English Hotel
Famous chef, Todd English, is putting his gourmet stamp in downtown Las Vegas. In 2022, English will open a hotel and a restaurant in the Arts District.
The 74-room boutique hotel was supposed to open in November 2021, but it was pushed back due to the pandemic. Now, it is expected to open in January 2022.
Innovation Center
The International Innovation Center@Vegas is opening a second location in downtown Las Vegas. The purpose of the second center, which will be located at the Herbert at 801 S. Main Street, is to continue building on a strong tech foundation that was already established in the city. The Innovation District, which was created in 2015, is dedicated to creating a center for testing groundbreaking technology.
The centers support and house companies that focus on the Internet of Things, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, water technology and autonomous vehicles.
Post Office Building Development
In 2022, we'll see the official opening of the renovated Nevada Savings and Loan building at 201 Las Vegas Boulevard South. Currently, the building houses the U.S. Post Office, and the developer, J Dapper, and the team will also bring restaurants and additional parking with a parking garage to the building.
Boring Tunnels
The Boring Company is building the Vegas Loop, a 29-mile network of tunnels underneath parts of the city, including the Strip. The first phase of the Vegas Loop made its debut at the Las Vegas Convention Center earlier this year.
In October 2021, Clark County approved the tunnel network that connects 51 stations. Las Vegas City Council will review a possible downtown expansion in 2022.
