The Las Vegas City Council unanimously ratified Susan Heltsley as the city’s new Finance Director. Heltsley, a certified public accountant and certified management accountant, previously served as the chief financial officer for the Clark County Water Reclamation District. City Manager Jorge Cervantes selected her for the position.
Heltsley has nearly 20 years of experience in government finance and has worked for the State of Washington. She also served as chief financial officer for a private medical school and her alma mater, Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, Washington. In addition, she worked as a private consultant specializing in assisting state and county governments with their financial challenges, and was the budget manager for the Russell Investment Group, which, at the time, had more than $100 billion in assets under management.
As director of the Finance Department, Heltsley leads a team that focuses on accounting, treasury, budgeting, purchasing and contracts.
Heltsley is an active member of the Government Finance Officers Association and the Government Investment Officers Association. She has Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration degree, both from Saint Martin’s University.
