The Las Vegas community came together to build a new community healing garden in response to the Oct. 1 tragedy, when a lone gunman killed 58 people and injured 500 more who were attending the Route 91 Harvest festival. The memorial garden is located at 1015 S. Casino Center Blvd. The garden features a wall of remembrance, a grove of trees, shrubs, flowers, walkways of pavers and benches – all to create something beautiful out of something horrific. 

Here are four things to know about the garden. 

The park was built in four days

The park was sketched out on a napkin by Jay Pleggenkuhle and Daniel Perez of Stonerose Landscapes on October 2 and by that Wednesday morning, hundreds of volunteers were bringing the plan to life. 

The park officially opened to the public only four days later on October 6. From donated supplies like trees and bricks to an irrigation system. 

All 58 victims have a tree in their memory

Exactly 58 trees lining a paved path, shrubs and flowers, all encircle a beautiful oak tree. 

The Tree of Life was donated by Siegfried and Roy

The oak tree in the middle of the garden was donated by Siegfried and Roy. The tree of life sits in a heart shaped planter adorned with tiles made by victim’s families, survivors and community members.  

The garden includes a Remembrance Wall

The original remembrance wall was made of wood pallets so to ensure that the wall would stand the test of time, and the harsh desert sun, a permanent wall made of steel has now been erected with a beautiful water feature and angel wings.
