A new permanent home for the Nevada State Veterans Memorial has officially broken ground at at the Thunderbird Family Sports Complex, located at 6105 N. Durango Drive in the northwest region of the city.
Honoring Nevada’s Veterans
The Nevada State Veterans Memorial is a partnership between the State of Nevada, the city of Las Vegas, and the Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports city initiatives.
The memorial features 18 larger-than-life bronze statues by sculptor Douwe Blumberg, each standing 7.5 feet tall and representing American military service from the Revolutionary War through present day. Originally commissioned by the state in 2011, the statues were relocated from outside the former Grant Sawyer State Office Building to their new permanent location, where they will be displayed together in a setting designed for reflection and remembrance.
A Space for Reflection, Healing and Education
Along with the memorial statues, the project includes a thoughtfully designed open-air promenade with landscaping, an amphitheater and informational signage to help visitors learn more about the service and sacrifices represented throughout the memorial.
Once completed, the memorial will honor more than 200,000 Nevada veterans, providing a dedicated place for healing, inspiration, education and community connection.
