West Las Vegas Library Opens To Rave Reviews

On Dec. 9, 2025, the Historic Westside celebrated the grand opening of the new West Las Vegas Library, a state-of-the-art community anchor more than twice the size of its predecessor. The ribbon-cutting marked a milestone in investment, learning and opportunity. The $40 million project was funded by the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, with support from the city of Las Vegas, which provided the land for the new site, and federal Community Project Funding secured by U.S. Rep. Steven Horsford.

Construction began after a groundbreaking ceremony in February 2024, following years of planning to expand resources and access for the community. After roughly 18 months of construction, the 41,000-square-foot facility opened its doors, creating a new hub for literacy, technology, culture and community engagement. Located at 1861 N. Martin L. King Jr. Blvd., the two-story building features a wide range of amenities designed for all ages:

  • Expanded collections with tens of thousands of books and learning materials;
  • High-tech innovation lab with 3D printers and digital tools;
  • Podcast and recording studios for creatives and storytellers;
  • Art gallery and cultural displays highlighting Historic Westside history;
  • Flexible event spaces for community gatherings and live performances;
  • Dedicated areas for study, tutoring and business resources; and a
  • Commercial kitchen and event center for community use.

Throughout the library, visitors can find historical timelines and exhibits that honor local heroes and the rich cultural legacy of the Historic Westside, cementing its place as a cultural destination as well.

Historic Westside Education And Training Center Brings New Job Training Opportunities

The community celebrated a major milestone Aug. 27, 2025, with the grand opening of the Historic Westside Education and Training Center, a new workforce development hub designed to expand access to education, job training and career pathways in the Historic Westside.

The $16.4 million facility, located at 1099 C St. on the campus of the Historic Westside School, is the result of a long-term collaboration between the city and the College of Southern Nevada (CSN). Significant support came from a U.S. Economic Development Administration grant in the amount of $6.9 million and contributions from the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development Workforce Innovations for a New Nevada (WINN) Fund.

The project began with a groundbreaking in May 2024, marking the start of construction on the 15,000-square-foot center. After more than a year of work, the new facility was completed and officially opened in late summer 2025.

The center offers a range of credentialed job-training programs focused on in-demand industries that provide pathways to high-wage careers. Training areas include advanced manufacturing, health care, technology and construction trades, along with adult basic education, English as a Second Language, career navigation and academic support services. Youth programming, dual-enrollment opportunities, and STEM engagement activities are also planned as the center continues developing its offerings. Located adjacent to the Historic Westside School, the center features flexible classrooms, labs, a computer lab and dedicated spaces designed to support hands-on learning and workforce preparation.

Information about class schedules, enrollment and program details can be accessed through the College of Southern Nevada’s website.

The Historic Westside Education and Training Center represents a major investment in workforce development and community revitalization — helping residents build new skills, pursue meaningful careers and strengthen the economic foundation of the Westside.

A New Hub For Housing And Business In The Historic Westside

The Lake Mead Microbusiness Park is rapidly taking shape as one of the most exciting new developments in the Historic Westside, bringing a powerful blend of workforce housing, small business space and entrepreneurial support to the heart of the community. Located at 620 W. Lake Mead Blvd., just west of Interstate 15 and adjacent to the Las Vegas Culinary Academy and Nevada Partners, the park sits on approximately five acres. The $53 million mixed-use development broke ground March 20, 2025.

The Microbusiness Park is fully government-funded, drawing on a mix of local, state and federal resources — including American Rescue Plan Act dollars — to ensure the project benefits the community without placing undue burden on residents. It will feature 76 workforce housing units designed for individuals and families earning up to 80% or less of the area’s median income. These units will include studios and one- to three-bedroom apartments with rents estimated between $900 and $1,800 per month — helping to address the need for housing in the Historic Westside.

In addition to housing, the park includes more than 20,000 square feet of commercial space, featuring:

-Retail storefronts and a potential restaurant space;
-Office spaces and collaborative work areas;
-Entrepreneur resources and a dedicated maker space;
-Classrooms and multimedia studios for training and business development; and
-Innovation and co-working zones designed to support small business growth.

A portion of the space will be home to UNLV’s Black Fire Innovation Center, offering business support, co-working space, computer labs, content-creation tools and more — helping entrepreneurs launch and scale their ventures right in the Westside.
Construction is expected to continue through 2026, with leasing opportunities for both housing and commercial spaces opening in early 2026. Residents, entrepreneurs and businesses interested in being part of this vibrant new community hub can learn more by visiting Clark County’s Office of Economic Development.

As a result of this impactful program, former system-impacted youth are finding new connections to skills, employment and civic engagement. This year alone, participants benefitted from 198 sessions of training, with topics including: kitchen terminology, commercial kitchen design ideas and principles, knife skills, cooking techniques, quality control, food safety, health and sanitation standards, kitchen maintenance, fundamentals of food prepping, cooking, grilling, frying, baking, sauteing, pasta making, preparing cream sauces, exposure to international cuisines (Mexican, African and Asian), food terminology, setting up food stations and entrepreneurship. Participants also discovered the power of partnership and networking through engagements in partnership with Clark County School District, the Governor’s Office of Workforce Innovation, the Youth and Justice Forum and the National League of Cities.

Program participants were connected to more than 30 career-related convenings this year. These pathways to opportunity are paying dividends as youth, go beyond the foundational skills developed in training and explore new industries, including public safety, management and sales.
