2021 has been a big year for construction on our roadways as we’ve worked to improve safety and upgrade decades-old infrastructure. Here are some of the highlights.
Downtown Pedestrian Safety project
Pedestrian safety enhancements including bollards and crash gates have been installed in proximity to the Fremont Street Experience to help prevent errant vehicles from entering the pedestrian spaces.
California Avenue Between Commerce And Third Street Improvements
The $3.8 million project will enhance traffic and pedestrian flow throughout the corridor and take approximately six months to complete. Motorists can expect lane restrictions and delays in the area until July 2022.
New pavement, sidewalks, driveways, trees and streetlights will be installed on California Avenue, while the alley between Main Street and Casino Center Boulevard, north and south of California, will get new pavement and 12-foot-high alley pedestrian lighting poles.
Medical District improvements
Street, sidewalk, traffic signal, street lighting, storm drain, water main, electrical utility and landscaping improvements along Shadow Lane from Charleston Boulevard to Alta Drive are underway. The $9.2 million project will enhance traffic and pedestrian flow throughout the corridor and take approximately 15 months to complete. Motorists can expect lane restrictions and delays in the area through Summer 2022.
Pinto Lane improvements from Shadow Lane to Martin L. King Jr. Boulevard are also underway. The $3.2 million project will enhance traffic and pedestrian flow throughout the corridor. Street, sidewalk, street lighting, storm drain, water main, electrical utility and landscaping improvements are being made. This section of Pinto Lane is closed through July 2022, except to motorists headed to a driveway on this portion of Pinto Lane.
Las Vegas Boulevard
The ongoing $125 million construction project to improve a 2.5-mile stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard in downtown Las Vegas continues from Stewart to Sahara avenues. Our largest public works project in city history, it is expected to be completed in spring of 2023.
