Moving Toward Zero: Las Vegas Updates Its Vision Zero Action Plan

Safety on our streets is more than a goal, it’s a shared commitment to protecting every person who travels through our community.

Safety on our streets is more than a goal—it’s a shared commitment to protecting every person who travels through our community. We are continuing that commitment with an updated Vision Zero Action Plan designed to eliminate traffic-related deaths and serious injuries by 2050.

Understanding the Need for Action

From 2018 to 2022, Las Vegas experienced 53,596 transportation crashes, resulting in 251 fatalities and 750 serious injuries. Nearly half of those killed were pedestrians, bicyclists, or motorcyclists—highlighting the urgent need for safer streets and stronger protections for the most vulnerable road users.

In response, the city made a bold commitment in 2022 to Vision Zero, setting a long-term goal of eliminating all traffic deaths and serious injuries.

Real Progress Since 2022

Since launching Vision Zero, Las Vegas has secured more than $45 million in funding to advance critical safety improvements across the city. These investments support programs such as:

  • The Arterial Reconstruction Program
  • The Safe Routes to School Program
  • A wide range of targeted roadway safety projects

Through Safe Routes to School alone, 22 schools were prioritized for walk audits and safety assessments, leading to 733 identified safety improvements that help protect students and families traveling to and from campus.

The city has also completed 50 of the 97 action items in its original Vision Zero plan, with 28 additional actions currently in progress. Improvements already delivered include traffic-calming chicanes, mini roundabouts to reduce cut-through traffic, and upgraded channelized islands to improve traffic flow and safety.

A Data-Driven Roadmap for Safer Streets

The updated Vision Zero Action Plan evaluates what has worked, identifies areas for improvement, and outlines the next steps needed to continue reducing serious crashes. Safety remains the foundation of every transportation decision the city makes.

Reducing crashes benefits everyone—keeping traffic moving, making daily travel more predictable, and even helping stabilize insurance costs for residents.

A Shared Responsibility

Vision Zero is not just a city policy. It is a community-wide effort built on collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and meaningful public engagement. Las Vegas is working closely with federal, state, regional, and local partners to coordinate safety strategies and share best practices.

Residents also play a vital role. Community members can report safety concerns through SeeClickFix and explore progress through the city’s interactive Vision Zero dashboard—helping shape safer streets for everyone.

Looking Ahead

Every life matters. Even one traffic death or serious injury is one too many. Through continued investment, collaboration, and community partnership, Las Vegas is moving closer to a future where every journey—no matter how you travel—is safe and reliable.
