Feb. 2, 2022, the Las Vegas City Council unanimously voted to consider a caretaker for the Las Vegas Municipal Court Department 6 judgeship. Judge Martin D. Hastings is retiring from the Department 6 bench after serving in the position since 2007. The Department 6 seat is up for election this year, and the City Council wants to appoint a caretaker who will agree not to run in the election. This will allow for work to continue in Department 6 under a caretaker judge, while the playing field remains level for candidates in the election.
The City Council is scheduled to consider a caretaker for the position at the Feb. 16, 2022, City Council meeting. Job Description:
The City Council will be making an appointment for an interim Municipal Court Judge (Department 6) to sit until the position is filled by a duly elected Municipal Court Judge in the 2022 Municipal Court Election.
The candidate selected will acknowledge, prior to appointment by the City Council, on the public record, that they understand the appointment is temporary and with the understanding that the candidate selected will not run for the office in the 2022 Municipal Election.
Minimum Requirements
- Must devote full time to the interim position and not be employed in any other capacity;
- Be a duly licensed member of the State Bar of Nevada in good standing, and have other such requirements as prescribed by any ordinance and City Charter;
- Be a resident of the city of Las Vegas;
- Not currently subject to disciplinary action by the State Bar of Nevada or any other court or tribunal;
- Not have been previously removed or retired from Judicial Office by the Commission on Judicial Discipline.
