From mountain biking to skiing, Las Vegas is the perfect location to take on new outdoor hobbies. In fact, outdoor sports grew in popularity through the course of the Covid-19 pandemic. Families were tired of staying inside and opted for outdoor fun. This is where local Las Vegas Holly Priest saw an opportunity.
An outdoor enthusiast herself, she saw the need for a used gear shop in town.“ The barrier to take on these sports can be high. For example, local bike stores saw a huge run on bikes during the pandemic, but a lot of people don’t stay in the sport so I knew there were going to be a lot of unused bikes sitting in people’s garages,” said Priest.
Priest decided an eco-friendly consignment store was just what the valley needed. With some nudging from her friend, she opened up Peaks and Pedals Gear Exchange on West Craig Road, right off of US 95 and North Tenaya.
Here you can sell your used outdoor gear or venture into a new hobby for a fraction of the price. The merchandise is constantly changing. You can find mountain bikes, camping equipment, clothing, shoes, backpacks…the list goes on and on. Priest says because she and her manager have knowledge about all of these sports, they can better help answer questions from their customers and they can make sure the equipment they are selling is safe.
“When people look around their garage, they will probably find all sorts of equipment they don’t use, so why not bring it here, try to get some money for it and maybe pick up interest in a new hobby. We call it adventure on a budget,” adds Priest.
If you think about it, Las Vegas has a lot to offer in our very own backyard. You can hike Lone Mountain one morning and hit the slopes on Mount Charleston in the afternoon. Our centralized location is also perfect for outdoor enthusiasts who can easily travel to neighboring states to surf in California or do some mountain climbing in Utah.
Priest is hopeful this new shop will become a staple in the community and will be the first stop on the road to your new adventure.
