After operating out of the Vegas Test Kitchen for the last two years, the pizza concept Yukon Pizza is going brick and mortar, opening its very own doors in the Huntridge Neighborhood. “This part of town is ready for a local unique business like us,” said Yukon Pizza owner, Alex White. “We want to be the neighborhood pizzeria and the place where everyone wants to go for pizza.”
Yukon Pizza is a family-owned business with rich traditions. White’s Great-Great-Grandpa started the family yeast culture during the Klondike Gold Rush in the Yukon territories. From there, pieces of the starter were passed down through the generations and eventually given to Alex as a high school graduation gift. “For us, we like to make pizza with our heart,” says White. “Our sourdough is one of the two oldest used sourdoughs in the restaurant business right now in the United States.”
During the pandemic White and his wife began making and selling pizzas from their home. They built up quite a side business and during this time a local chef suggested he start making his pizzas in the Vegas Test Kitchen, a space which offers a pop-up kitchen area for chefs to practice new ideas. This is when Yukon Pizza really gained a following. “For the last two years we spent really locked into the space offered at the Test Kitchen,” says White. “We really dialed in how we want to work and operate.”
Along with serving up a menu full of its popular sourdough pizzas, Yukon offers sourdough battered bites, sandwiches, salads and rotating specials paired with packaged beer and wine. People who live and work in the area are excited to see a new business pop up. “I work right down the street,” says one local customer who is trying the pizza for the first time. “The pizza is excellent. I love a good slice of pizza and will definitely be stopping by here more often, that’s for sure.”
“It’s been cool to watch the revitalization of the community,” says White. “We are excited to see what’s in store for the future.” Yukon Pizza is open Wednesday – Sunday, located at 1130 E. Charleston Blvd, Suite 160.
