At the city of Las Vegas, we take the safety of our residents and neighborhoods seriously. We have a process for reporting dangerous buildings and our team investigates each case.

Currently, the period for the demolition of an abandoned property is approximately 90-120 days.

The city will work with property owners who are addressing safety issues as long as the owner keeps the property clean, secure and safe.

Designating a building as dangerous can include criteria like:

  • Dangerous building exit.
  • Structural collapse or ability to injure persons or other property.
  • Structurally less resistance to winds or earthquakes than is required in the case of similar or new construction.
  • Dilapidation, deterioration, or decay of ground or foundation to make structure unsound.
  • Whenever the building or structure has been so damaged by fire, wind, earthquake or flood, or has become so dilapidated or deteriorated as to become
  • Creates a fire hazard.
  • Creates a public nuisance

In 2020, we had 261 dangerous building designations, which resulted in 20 demolitions. So far in 2021, we have had 147 designations with 9 demolitions.
