The city wants to inform residents and businesses that sewer service fees and sewer connection fees are increasing effective Jan. 1, 2027.
Quarterly sewer service fees for a single-family residence (no pool) will increase by 4.2% (5-year average Consumer Price Index) + 4% (City Council approved for 10 years) for a total of 8.2% which equals a quarterly increase of $7.52 or $30.06 per year.
Sewer connection fees will increase by 8.2%, which equals a $265 increase per Equivalent Residential Unit.
Both fees, and the conditions for their increases are covered in Las Vegas Municipal Code Title 14 (Sections 14.04.020, 14.04.030 and 14.04.210).
The current sewer rates were developed and implemented through a rate study and associated code revisions adopted on Sept. 7, 2022, which included public notice. Both rates are recommended to be increased annually through a rolling Consumer Price Index calculation (which has been the established method of increase since the mid-2000s) plus 4% for a 10-year period to provide funding for capital expansion and replacements needed at the Water Pollution Control Facility and associated sewage collection system. The city has budgeted $64.5 million in capital improvement projects in Fiscal Year 2027 and $461.4 million for plant upgrades and major sewer improvement projects to accommodate the growth and ongoing maintenance over the next five years. Some current capital expansion and rehabilitation projects include:
- Owens Avenue Sewer Interceptor
- Sewer Rehabilitation Group P – Centennial Center Relief Sewer
- Annual Sewer Assessment
- Water Pollution Control Facility Dewatering Facility Rehabilitation
- Water Pollution Control Facility Headworks Facility Rehabilitation
For residents on fixed incomes, Las Vegas Municipal Code 14.04.040 establishes a rebate program. Qualified property owners may receive a 20% rebate for the annual sewer service fee.
