A native Las Vegan, Tammy Malich has been chosen to lead the city’s Department of Youth Development & Social Innovation (YDSI). As head of YDSI, Malich will oversee such programs as Safekey, Strong Start Academies, the Mayor’s Faith Initiative and ReInvent Schools Las Vegas. Here are five things to know about this new city team member.

  • Malich comes to the City with more than 20 years of experience in educational leadership and 29 years of total educational experience in the Clark County School District. Most recently, she has served as an assistant superintendent with the district.
  • Malich was the first principal at Legacy High School and opened the school in the fall of 2005.
  • Malich served as the point of contact between the Clark County School District and the city for all partnership initiatives. She has worked with city staff on projects such as, Reinvent Schools Las Vegas, Batteries Included, and Innovations in Education.
  • Malich restructured the Clark County School District After-School Plan by leveraging the use of Safekey programs at the city of Las Vegas.
  • In 2003, Malich opened Clifford “Pete” Findlay Middle School as a principal.
