Arts District Plan

Overview

The Las Vegas Arts District has emerged and grown organically over the last several decades into one of our most celebrated neighborhoods. Our local residents embrace it as an important part of our community and visitors are increasingly discovering it.

A study was launched to learn from Arts District stakeholders how they envision opportunities to ensure the creative and economic vibrancy of the area, including how best to retain artists and creatives and bolster the District economically and programmatically. The work also sought to identify opportunities to work with owners, businesses, developers and more to ensure that the Arts District retains its attraction as a unique place in our city, and that the creatives that contributed to it, and that contribute to the Las Vegas economy as a whole, are supported.

The outreach and research work to support the study included: conversations with more than 100 stakeholders, organizations, businesses, residents, owners and artists; a survey; and best practices research from other cities to understand how they are supporting arts districts.

Live/Work Housing

Through a partnering with Artspace, a nonprofit housing developer, to plan and develop  artist live/work housing. Their development projects also include community creative space elements which are designed to meet local need.

In September 2023, the City Council approved funding for a feasibility study and market analysis with Artspace. Since that time, Artspace has been conducting market research and interviews, and working with the city to identify potential sites for a project in the Las Vegas Arts District.

Business Improvement District

Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) are a special neighborhood funding tool that has been used across the country and around the world for more than 40 years. To establish a BID, property owners, business owners and residents in a defined area  come together to identify collective needs, projects and programs that would benefit the area, then formalize that in a plan and petition each other to support the implementation of that plan through a special assessment on the properties in the area.

Once established, a BID is managed by an independent board of stakeholders from the neighborhood, meaning the community itself determines priorities for the funds. BIDs can collectively fund a number of important services and projects for the area, including but not limited to: public safety; cleaning and maintenance, beautification, artist support and programs; events; and more.

While the private sector leads this effort, the city is committed to supporting a public-private partnership designed in the Las Vegas Arts District.

A steering committee comprised of Las Vegas Arts District stakeholders has formed to explore the formation of a BID for the Arts District. For more information email info@lvartsbid.com.

Business & The Arts

The outreach work conducted as part of the 18b Las Vegas Arts District study identified desires by the arts community to better connect to the business community and to create new opportunities to work together.  Our efforts to initiate this work launched at the second annual Las Vegas Arts & Culture Summit Feb. 29, 2024.

More than 200 people from the Las Vegas arts community attended the summit at the Historic Fifth Street School in downtown Las Vegas. The summit offers the opportunity to share ideas and resources, build stronger connections, and identify ways to continue building a stronger arts and culture community in Las Vegas.

The day-long Summit was punctuated with frequent  performances from a number of performing groups and artists, including the High Stakes Barbershop Quartet, opera singer Amara Wertin, a mini theatrical production by Vegas Theatre Company and Majestic Repertory Theatre; a poetry reading by Vogue Robinson; and performances by Mariachi Alma Del Sol, Rainbow Company Youth Theatre, and the Southern Paiutes.  The event concluded with a happy hour serenaded by Las Vegas Youth Jazz Orchestra.
