Las Vegas Is An Exciting Place To Call Home

Charleston, the Red Rock National Recreation Area and Lake Mead National Recreation Area are nearby destinations that offer outdoor activities like hiking, boating, fishing and world-class big game hunting. The Original Las Vegas fire department

Join the original Las Vegas fire department and our red fire trucks. This year, the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Department (LVFR) celebrates 80 years since our first full-time fire chief was hired Aug. 1, 1942. Learn more about the department’s history.

Specialty Teams

Today LVFR includes 21 fire stations,  22 paramedic engine companies, six ladder truck companies, 24 paramedic rescue units, a technical rescue unit, hazardous materials unit, mobile command unit, arson investigations unit, the community’s 911 call dispatch center and Southern Nevada’s only bomb squad unit. Fire Station 1 is one of the busiest fire stations in the country and has been ranked a top 10 fire house by Firehouse Magazine.

Pay and Benefits

All firefighters begin at step 1 with an annual starting salary of $59,989.80 following successful completion of the academy with overtime opportunities available. Review our benefits package

Benefits also include the Nevada PERS retirement system which is considered one of the strongest retirement systems in the country. Nevada firefighters also enjoy the strongest presumptive cancer protections in the country under our heart and lung bill.  Employees are also eligible for a tuition reimbursement program to finish a college education. 

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue also has peer fitness and peer support teams. 

Promotional Opportunities 

After two years of service, firefighters who wish to become paramedics can apply for paramedic school which is paid for by the department. After three years of service, testing for engineer is available. After seven years of service, testing for captain is available. 

Competitive Pay During Academy

While in the academy, the department offers competitive pay at $24.53 hourly and benefits.

Schedule

The academy schedule is four 10-hour days (Monday - Thursday).  The work schedule at our fire stations is a 48/96 schedule.

Amazing Weather

Yes, the summers are hot but the other nine months of the year, our weather is wonderful. Even during December, January and February, our coldest months of the year, daily highs are in the 50s and it rarely dips below freezing.

Family Life

The Clark County School District offers a variety of learning opportunities for students from traditional schools to magnet and other specialty programs. There are also numerous charter and private schools.

There are also unlimited opportunities for family life from two water parks to museums, world-class parks and more.
